Intention is Everything!

As an intuitive healer, I rely heavily on the power of intention, both for myself and my clients. Because I am an energy worker and coach, I am immersed in other people’s energy all the time. Therefore, it’s super important that I hold space not only for my clients to feel safe and supported, but also for myself. It’s very easy to allow my own energy to be depleted by my healing work. When holding sacred space for myself and others, intention is everything!

Intention is the energy that transforms our thoughts into action. Everything in the universe is made up of energy, whether living or nonliving. The same is true of our thoughts, which is the most powerful form of energy. To quote Buddha, “The mind is everything. What you think you become.” Harnessing the power of thought is the key to manifesting a happier and healthier life. Setting intentions is how we activate the power of mind over matter.

In the past, I believed that I had to expend my own energy to be a conduit of healing for my clients. As a result, I found myself feeling exhausted after each healing session. I told myself I would be tired and, unsurprisingly, I was. Energy is a living form of consciousness and it gains purpose once we intend our thoughts into action.

I have since changed how I practice my healing work. I now set the intention with every client that my energy will be rejuvenated. Now, I find myself invigorated after every session, because I have set the intention to receive healing as well. In fact, I am a living example of the power of intention.

A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. In just over two months, I went from being very active (swimming 4-5 times a week) to having barely enough strength to shower each morning. The symptoms I had were indicative of late stage or chronic Lyme Disease. My doctor prescribed a three-week course of very strong antibiotics. Unfortunately, they did nothing to help… my symptoms only got worse. My joints hurt constantly, my arms and feet would go numb several times a day with no warning, and my muscles were so fatigued that I had to plan my movements throughout the day. One trip up or down the stairs took all my energy. Even making the bed felt like I ran a marathon!

The brain fog was the worst part. I could no longer articulate my thoughts. I knew what I wanted to say but could not seem to grab common everyday words from my brain to communicate. Not to mention the memory loss, I would forget full conversations from only a few hours earlier! To say I was frustrated would be a huge understatement!

For almost six weeks, I sat in a very deep pocket of depression. I couldn’t do anything. I felt useless. With so much inactive time on my hands, I began researching everything I could about Lyme Disease. I connected with many other Lyme sufferers and hearing their stories only depressed me further. The common theme was how awful they felt all the time and that I should prepare myself for the long haul because life was not going to get better. Their lives had become a series of mostly bad days with a few good days sprinkled in.

That was not okay with me! I did not want to live the rest of my life like that! As an energy worker, I knew there were other options out there. I set the intention that I would beat Lyme! Knowing the power of the mind and the incredible healing ability of the human body, I created my own recovery plan.

I said daily affirmations that reiterated my intention. I would say aloud: I am happy. I am healthy. My body is strong. I am Lyme-free. Then I visualized myself healthy and being active. I imagined I was back in the pool again or hiking. I also scheduled weekly Reiki sessions and chiropractor visits.

My intention to self-heal not only rid my body of any trace of Lyme Disease in only 8 months, but it also proved what I already knew. The human body is amazingly intelligent and adaptable, and our minds have the incredible ability to manifest our greatest desires. While I realize that this path may not cure all physical ailments or diseases, my experience has taught me that energy truly flows where intention goes!

Since then, I have changed my entire outlook and have applied the power of intention to every aspect of my life. As a result, I’m healthier, my relationships are stronger, my healing practice continues to grow, I can handle life’s challenges better, and most important, my energy is aligned with my soul’s purpose. Don’t get me wrong, I’m human. There are plenty of times when I slip back into my old mindset and I can honestly feel the difference. However, I find that amazing things continue to manifest when I live my life with intention.

Even in the past few months, wonderful growth opportunities have manifested in my life. I have connected with two other amazing healers to form Manassas Mindfulness Co-op (www.manassasmindfulnessco-op.com). Casey Leigh Roper (www.innerhealingsoulutions.com), Patty Andes (www.heartnsoulhealing.com) and I are committed to sharing space, building community and helping others realize their own potential for growth, well-being and mindful living.

You can do the same! The formula is simple and requires only a few steps:

· Intention: Every day focus your thoughts. Say aloud what you want to achieve in the present tense as if it's already happening. This solidifies your commitment.

· Visualization: Spend 3-5 minutes each day imagining what it will look and feel like when you reach your goal.

· Action: Take tangible steps every day to reach your goal. These steps can be as simple as doing some research, scheduling “me” time, or making a phone call. The point is to show up and keep showing up!

· Manifestation: Goal Achieved! Rinse and Repeat!

Remember, what you believe to be true, will be true. Change your mind, change your life. It really is that simple.
